Nameplate Creation


Microsoft Word has many powerful and useful features. Today we will investigate Word's abilities to incorporate WordArt and clipart into a single document that you may use to label a folder. Please begin by following the steps below.

Part I

    1) Ensure that all tools are available that are required to complete the project.

      - You should see the word "Draw in the lower left corner of your screen.
      - If you do not see the word "Draw" in the lower left corner of the screen:

      Choose View > Toolbars > Select "Drawing".

    2) Ensure that you are working in the "Print Layout" mode.

      - Select View > select Page Layout.

    3) Adjust your page orientation.

      - Select File > Page Setup. You should see a window appear.

      - Locate the "Orientation box" in the middle of the window on the left.

      - Click the circle labeled "Landscape" > Click OK of hit the Enter key.

    4) Adjust the zoom level.

      - Locate the small window with the number 100% (or similar percentage).

      - Click on the small arrow next to the number.

      - Choose 50% from the list of choices you should see the rectangle become smaller.


Part II

1) Choose Insert > Picture > Clipart.

    - Ensure that you are viewing clipart the Clipart Gallery by choosing the tab on the top of the window labeled Clipart

    - Scroll through the available pictures and select a picture that is visually appealing click the Insert button.

2) Place the cursor (arrow pointer) over the picture and Right mouse click (push down the right button on the mouse).

    - Choose Format Picture. Locate the word Color. Click on the arrow in window to the right and choose "washout". > Click OK.

    - You should see the picture fade. This is the desired effect and is used to diminish the impact of the picture in relation to the WordArt.

    - To move the picture, select the picture and locate the picture toolbar. Select the text wrapping button. image Select > In back of text.

3) Locate and select the 3 dimensional letter A on the drawing toolbar towards the bottom of the screen.

    - In the window that appears choose a style of WordArt that will blend with your picture. > Click OK.

    - Replace the words "Your text here" with your first and last name nickname optional. (-: > Click OK.

    - Select the text wrapping button. image Select > In front of text.

    - Move the WordArt over the Clipart.

4) Choose File > Print > Click OK.


Tips

To resize a picture or WordArt, click on the picture or WordArt. Move the mouse pointer to a corner of the selected object. Click and hold the left mouse button. Drag (from the corner) inward or outward to diminish or enlarge, respectively, the selected object.

To change the shape of the WordArt click the WordArt Shape button from the WordArt toolbar.

To change the color(s) of WordArt, right mouse click on the WordArt and choose Format WordArt or select the Fill Color arrow button from the drawing toolbar.
